Based on the writings of Christopher Columbus, many historians believe this is where he landed in 1492. We didn’t see his journals, but we’re sure what they must read: “Soft white sand, turquoise waters, lined with trees blowing in the gentle breeze. Having a great time; wish you where here!”

The soft curve of Governor’s Beach feels like a mirror of your mind, relaxed and at ease when you spend time here. Turtles and rays play in the water as people swim around them and don their snorkel masks for a better look. This clean, safe beach is lined and dotted with reefs, teeming with marine life.

Lie in the sun and watch the cruise ships pass by, or get active and take a horseback ride right through the surf as it laps softly on the shoreline. Swim for a while and then enjoy a picnic lunch; tables are provided, most of them in the shade, and there are beach-side public washrooms.

There are no vendors on Governor’s Beach, unlike many Caribbean sands, and this makes for a bother-free visit. When you need a break from the sand and surf, check out the local buildings, some of them pretty pink, from houses to hotels and churches.

The best element of Governor’s Beach is the coral reefs and patch reefs all within 100 meters of the beach; it’s a place to sun and explore, relax and be intrigued.
